Cartography echoes a recollection of immigrant experiences, some of my life, some of the people I've met in Canada. I wrote this script to vocalize an identity crisis inherent to the condition of being a person in transit. Storytelling is what drives me, and I want to be a writer and director of feature films.
Cartography to me exemplifies the crash between the romanticized reality of immigrant life, and how hard it is when you realize it's not easy. I am always going to support Andressa as well as all of the diverse voices that are part of this crew.
Bianca's journey resonates with me because it exemplifies how the female experience transcends borders. After Sheridan, I hope to continue my work in the production department for children's content or other film projects.
I am interested in cartography because it speaks volumes on many reoccurring problems today. Including the struggle of immigrating to a new country just as both my parents had, and the daily challenges they had to endure to make a sustainable living for us.
Although I was born and raised here in Canada, I feel that the search for strength in one's identity resonates with us all. I find myself cheering for our character Bianca, and all women who are trying to create their own identities in a world that supports the opposite.
Bianca's journey as a woman is one that resonates with me. I hope my career will bring me interesting and challenging stories to which I can contribute great sound. I also hope I'll win an Oscar for Best Sound. Who knows? Crazier things have happened.
My experience as an American coming to Canada is very different from Bianca's experiences, but I still find ways of relating to her. After school, I plan on gaining permanent residency here to start a career in film and TV.
I love all things visual and in the future hope to enter the film industry through the art department route. I am excited to be apart of this important story of immigrant women and the struggles she faces in a new country.
I am Ukrainian, based in Toronto. That's why I can relate to the experience of being an immigrant and not always being able to “fit in”. I hope I can continue my journey in the casting and camera departments. And I am very excited to see what is coming next!
